A stage being built for the Madonna concert in the southern French city of Marseille, has collapsed, leaving one dead and six injured. The fire department says the stage at the Stade Velodrome stadium fell apart on top of several workers Thursday, this afternoon at 5.15pm.
The six injured were taken to local hospitals. The cause of the stage collapse is not clear and will be investigated. Deputy mayer, Maurice Di Nocera, announced that Madonna’s concert at the Velodrome stadium, scheduled for Sunday July 19, has now been canceled. Following the tragedy, Madonna has issued the following statement: Tonight, during her show in Udine (Italy), Madonna spoke in tears right before You Must Love me… Before I continue the show I want to take a moment to acknowledge and pay tribute to two people who lost their lives today. I don’t know if you’ve heard. Two men building my show in Marseille where we’re going next - the crane fell and we don’t know why. (Madonna names them). I hate to be associated with suffering. I want to pay tribute to their families. Let’s take a moment to appreciate our family, loved ones, friends around us. |
